SHIN, SO YOUN

PAINTING ARTIST

I have been interested in the change of existence between life and destruction for a long time and see this as a relational thinking of color. Works Untitled 2019 is a work that speaks of the relationship between me and others according to the change of presence or absence. The relationship depends on each other is independent at the same time. And it is a work that expresses that it is constantly changing and extending infinitely in time and space. All beings in the world contain creation and extinction in a structure of existence or nonexistence, and in that structure, they depend on each other and are independent. Our minds and thoughts that emerge and disappear without a break for a moment....Going further, my existence... cannot be defined in conscious language. Therefore, my 'being' is nothing but a 'mind relationship' in a process that is constantly changing. I use stone powder and Korean paper to connect these changes in the existence and the relationship of mind to the appearance and disappearance of the color, and the presence or absence of existence...For the difference, he thinks of the difference that each one's one is delayed in time and extended spatially.

CRITICISM

Shin so yeon's work is to add hanji(Korean traditional paper) on the crushed rock and she express actively only the essence of crushed rock, hanji and color on the canvas. She shows us through countless work practices by entering into a state of mind called the idealistic zen thoughts and layering hanji to reach the realization of "immersion" based on the old ZEN ideas. Through this, it is a genre of conceptual art that suggests a way to reach an absolute freedom beyond the spiritual idealism thinking of modern people.

Through this, it is a genre of conceptual art that suggests a way to reach an absolute freedom beyond the spiritual idealism thinking of modern people. These days, monochrom painting has become a trend in painters and unlike the current trend, Shin So-yeon is considered to have reached this monochromatic work style through a long period of non-representative work based on the traditional theme of Oriental painting.

I have been interested in existence and non-existence changes that come from the life and death of existence for a long time and have come to this insight through colors as related reasons. All beings in the world are created and destroyed in existence or not structures, relying on each other within they are independent. Our hearts and thoughts that emerge and disappear without a moment's rest...Going further, my existence... cannot be defined in a conscious language. Therefore, my 'existence' is only a 'mind relationship' in the process of constantly changing in the existence or not structure.

I connect the change of color (presence, heart, existence or not) to absent and present in color borrowed from crushed rock and hanji on canvas, depending on the existence or not I enjoy the change in the time and the spatial extension of the differences.

The ever-changing relationship between me and the other is extending indefinitely in time and space.
